What information is collected

When you use the contact form

The form asks for your name, email address, organisation, the type of enquiry, any relevant date or deadline, your message, and your agreement for your details to be used to reply. Only the fields marked as required must be completed.

Please do not include health or medical information. The form is not for medical advice or patient referrals. If you send health information by mistake, it will be deleted and not used.

When you visit the site

Like most websites, the server that hosts this site automatically records basic technical information, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. This is used to keep the site secure and working properly, and it is not used to identify you.

Images on this site are delivered through Jetpack, a service run by Automattic Inc., which processes your IP address in order to deliver images quickly.

How your information is used, and why

  • To reply to your enquiry and, where relevant, arrange a talk, interview or collaboration. The lawful basis is Professor Rampal’s legitimate interest in responding to people who get in touch, and your consent when you tick the agreement box on the form.
  • To keep the website secure and working, for example by blocking spam and attacks. The lawful basis is legitimate interests.

Your information is not used for marketing, is not sold, and is not used for automated decision-making or profiling.

Who your information is shared with

Your information is shared only with the service providers needed to run this website and to receive your message:

  • the website host, GoDaddy Inc, which stores the site and its database;
  • the email service used to receive and reply to enquiries, Microsoft 365;
  • WPForms, the form software, which runs on this website;
  • Automattic Inc. (Jetpack), for image delivery and site security.

These providers act on Professor Rampal’s instructions and may not use your information for their own purposes. Your information may be passed to others only if the law requires it.

Some of these providers are based in, or use servers in, the United States. Where information is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.

How long your information is kept

  • Contact form enquiries and related emails: up to two years after your last contact, then deleted, unless an ongoing collaboration means they need to be kept longer.
  • Server logs: kept by the hosting provider for a limited period for security, usually no more than 30 days.
